Why Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather is sport’s undisputed king of bling
Floyd Mayweather poses with pop star Justin Bieber after his last fight, a win that could add a few few more trinkets to his burgeoning collection of personal jewellery.
Floyd Mayweather found himself in a brief period of self-imposed retirement before he spoke to an unsuspecting BBC journalist a few years ago......
Rather than talk about future fights, the American spends almost two minutes dancing around questions on boxing as sharply as does in the ring, by responding with how much money he is raking in. No questions are answered, but the welterweight champ gets the message across several times.
"Money making money, and I feel real good," comments Mayweather.
He earlier introduces a posse of pals to the interviewer before declaring to the camera: "My name is Money Mayweather, and my lifestyle is flash." And his lifestyle is flash. Very flash.
So flash that the world's best pound-for-pound boxer has decided to take to Instagram to show off his personal haul of treasure.
'Money' has displayed a video of his rings, watches and diamonds, prompting over 7,000 comments from his 2.47 million followers, who he asked for a title that he could give to the little film.
The Pugilist has a contender: 'Money making money, and I feel real good.'
The Mayweather collection of jewelry includes eight watches and diamond encrusted bracelets.
His last win against Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez last September saw him push his career earnings through the $350 million (£209m) mark.
He has four more fights left on a six-fight contract with Showtime with at least $30 million guaranteed per fight.
It looks like he is going to need every penny to fund his lavish lifestyle. He apparently splashed out $250,000 for a pair of earrings.
He also likes to gamble. He apparently stuck almost $6 million on Miami Heat in last year's Eastern Conference Basketball finals.
Like his fights, Mayweather came out a winner with Miami managing to turn over the Indiana Pacers.
Mayweather next puts his undefeated record of 45 fights on the line against Marco Maidana at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on May 3.
And so back to that interview with the Beeb man looking more and more like a confused labrador.
"My suit is nice, exclusively designed for Mayweather, 1.2 for the watch," explains Mayweather. "We call these the tennis ball frames (shades)..
"And that's what we do, baby. I feel real, real good. Fight's on deck, cheques on deck. Money making money. And I feel real good. "
